  • Product Description

Traditionally used to make pea coats for mariners, the dense weave of melton makes it superbly resistant to both water and wind. A meticulously constructed shirt for the inclement weather of the Pacific Northwest —made from warm post-consumer recycled wool, it’s soft, sturdy and naturally insulating, with elevated comfort and breathability for all-day wear. As Anián's wool has already lived a previous life—the source garments are carefully salvaged before being sorted, processed and re-woven—it also features a felt-like touch that’s smoother than other wools, and it’s manufactured in a unique, dye-free process that saves water and eliminates the need for harmful chemical dyes. Anián's most durable and heaviest-weight style, the Modern Melton is finished with a button-down collar, a drop-in chest pocket, double-button sleeve plackets and a curved hem; the two-tone buttons are based on Canadian military buttons from the Second World War. A double yoke lies comfortably on the shoulders and adds additional weather protection, and a box pleat allows more freedom of movement across the back.

      Details

14-oz 80% post-consumer recycled wool / 20% nylon. Warm, durable and naturally weather-resistant, this comfortable blend is manufactured in a unique dye-free process for reduced environmental impact. Melton starts out a touch stiff, but softens quickly with wear.
Tightly woven wool has microbial and stain-resistant properties. Shirt only needs to be washed once a year (if that). Wash in cold water and hang to dry. To reduce energy and water use, we recommend washing only when necessary. Less washing also gives your garments a longer life.

      Size Guide & Measurements

      • The Modern Melton is cut like a tailored shirt, with patterning that’s narrower through the shoulders and torso with more space through the hip; there’s also a bit of extra room in the arms for layering. To wear as an overcoat, we suggest moving up one size.
